What is the Census?
The Census is a count of all people residing in the United States. The  US Constitution, requires that the count  be held every 10 years. The new census form has only 10 questions!

Why do we have a Census?

The Census determines representation in the US House of Representatives and  how our Congressional districts are drawn.

The Census also determines the amount of state and federal dollars to be allocated to each community.

Every year, $400 billion of federal funds will be shared among communities, based on the 2010 Census. That comes to $1300 per person!

Local Mayans to be fully counted in this year's Census
For more than two hundred years, the U-S Census has asked people to identify themselves by race. This year, for the first time, the Census will single out indigenous tribes from the Americas: including Mayans. That could be significant for Palm Beach County, which has what some suspect are thousands of  Mayan immigrants. WLRN-Miami Herald reporter Joshua Johnson has the story.

Here is the Take 10 Map on the 2010 Census' website.
Type 33460 in the arrow and click “Local View” on the left. A map will appear showing the Census tract divisions in our area. When you click on an area, the return rate will be revealed. When you click the tract over the Lake Worth border, to the north, you will see that West Palm is 10 points higher – just one street over!

We need to bring our hard earned tax dollars back to our City!

The 2010 Census will determine how much funding our city will receive for education, emergency services, hurricane relief planning, public transportation, building of roads and bridges, child-care, job training, housing, nursing homes, senior centers and grants for non-profits.

Only 53% of Lake Worth households responded to the 2000 Census. This means, for the past 10 years, the City of Lake Worth received only half of the funding it needed!

Businesses and industries, looking to relocate, will use the 2010 Census data to decide if Lake Worth has the number of consumers and the workforce they need to move here. New businesses will bring needed jobs and help the local economy!
